About Us
ConnectShip, a wholly-owned, independent business unit of
United Parcel Service of America (UPS®), was formed when UPS
purchased select assets of TanData Corporation on August
15, 2001. However, the history of the innovation that defines
ConnectShip began in 1980 when TanData was created by
A.R. Tandy.
In the early 1990’s, TanData Corporation pioneered the use of
client-server technology to build a software product named
Progistics™. This technology evolved to become the powerful
carrier compliance engine inside ConnectShip™ Toolkit.
Toolkit is a set of application programming interfaces (APIs)
that, together with a software developer’s kit (SDK), allow
users to solve their transportation and logistics problems by
building shipping functionality into the software applications
that are used across their business.
TanData applied for patents in September 1993 for this
technology, which was the first automated system to
separate carrier compliance rules from those of the shipper
through the use of separate “servers” for each carrier. In 2009,
one of the original patents was re-issued by the U.S. Patent
and Trademark Office. ConnectShip now holds multiple
patents covering technologies for shipping automation.
Leveraging industry-standard interfaces such as Microsoft .NET
and XML, our software is designed to be integrated into your
business processes. As a result, integrating ConnectShip
shipping software into your transportation and warehouse
management applications means that you can adapt our
technology to suit your unique business requirements, without
the high-level of investment needed to continually remain
compliant with the major parcel carriers around the world.
As a subsidiary of the largest parcel carrier in the world,
ConnectShip naturally integrates seamlessly into the full
range of UPS services and products. However, ConnectShip is
a multi-carrier, multi-modal solution provider. Using
ConnectShip Solutions, companies can compare rates across
and ship via the major parcel carriers including FedEx, DHL,
Purolator, TNT, UPS, the U.S. Postal Service, and LTL carriers
from 44 origin countries around the globe.
Fortune 100 companies as well as some of the most recognizable
consumer brands around the world use ConnectShip. Our
customer list includes GE, AT&T, Cardinal Health, Target.com,
State Farm and Motorola as well as Swiss Army Brands, Toro,
Timex, Dow Corning, Wine.com, and the Dallas Cowboys.
